First Sunday || The Year Of Divine Expansion || Pastor JJ Mills

Jan 7, 2024    Pastor JJ Mills

As we gather on this Communion Sunday, the first Sunday of 2024, we stand at the threshold of a year marked by Divine Expansion. Our 21 days of fasting and prayer, guided by the words of Isaiah 54:2-3, have paved the way for a transformative journey. Today, as we partake in communion, we do so with hearts full of anticipation, mindful that it's not just the start of a new year but a season of first fruits in the Year of Divine Expansion.

Point 1: Enlarging Our Vision Through Communion (Isaiah 54:2):

Scripture: Isaiah 54:2

"Enlarge the place of your tent; stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your pegs."

Communion serves as a tangible reminder of God's call to expand. Just as Isaiah exhorts us to enlarge our tents, we partake in the bread and the cup, signifying our willingness to stretch beyond our comfort zones. Communion becomes a symbol of enlarging our vision, aligning our hearts with God's expansive plans for our lives and the City Mission Church.

Point 2: Divine Nourishment and Growth (Isaiah 54:3a):

Scripture: Isaiah 54:3a

"For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left..."

As we partake in communion, we recognize the spiritual nourishment symbolized in the elements. Isaiah's prophecy echoes in our hearts as we anticipate spreading abroad, not just individually but as a church community. The communion elements become a source of divine nourishment, fostering growth, and preparing us to extend our influence to new horizons.

Point 3: Flourishing in Divine Prosperity (Isaiah 54:3b):

Scripture: Isaiah 54:3b

"...your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities."

In communion, we acknowledge our connection to the divine promise of prosperity. Isaiah's words inspire us to envision a future where we dispossess spiritual strongholds and bring life to desolate areas. The communion table becomes a symbol of our participation in the divine plan for prosperity in relationships, outreach, discipleship, and community impact.

Conclusion:

As we conclude this Communion Sunday, let the essence of Divine Expansion and the first fruits of 2024 linger in our hearts. The elements we partake in are not mere symbols; they are tokens of a covenant with a God who calls us to enlarge, spread, and prosper. May this Communion Sunday be a sacred moment where we embrace the divine expansion that God has set before us, anticipating a year where our lives and City Mission Church will bear the first fruits of His abundant grace and glory.
